UNITY IN THE STRUGGLE

The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) remains the only Telecommunications company in the Philippines with the fastest, most reliable and cost-efficient voice, data and video transmission services running through a single multi-service network with an extensive network of satellite and branch offices across the country.

PLDT’s ‘nation-widest’ scope is reflected in the membership of Manggagawa sa Komunikasyon ng Pilipinas (MKP), the rank and file union. In the early 90’s union membership was 16,000 but has dramatically dropped to less than two thousand through management’s Early Retirement Program (ERP) and promotion to technical management.

OUR GOAL

A strong, self-sustaining & democratic workers’ organization at the fore front of a unified and empowered labor movement and a democratically constituted state  where  the means of production are  utilized for the benefit of all.

The MKP struggle works beyond PLDT and is working to build a broader workers' unity.

WE BELIEVE

That  a common thread binds all workers which  cuts across national borders. It is vital that the Filipino workers struggle is closely linked to the struggle of workers around the world.

That the struggle for environmental protection must form as integral part of the peoples struggle as continued environment degradation puts Mother Earth, and the fate of humanity in the brink of uncertainty.

Thus:

MKP needs to strengthen its UNION by opening its membership and or assist union organizing  in the entire telecommunications industry.

MKP needs to WORK HAND IN HAND in the ground-breaking work of organizing the unorganized &  precarious workers or ‘contractuals’.

MKP needs to work closely with other sectors that mirrors the aspirations for a democratic and sovereign Philippines free from any form of oppression.
